Preparations in Full Swing for Thattanchavady Bypoll, TN

Preparations for the October 6 by-election to the Thattanchavady assembly seat are in full swing with the commissioning and secure sealing of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) units on Friday. 

According to District Election Officer A. Kulothungan, as part of the procedural groundwork, EVMs and VVPAT units stored in the strong room at the Reddiarpalayam election office were transported under strict security at 7 am to the Motilal Nehru Government Polytechnic College in Lawspet.

The transit and setup took



place in the presence of contesting candidates and their authorised agents.

At the college facility, ballot papers displaying candidate names, serial numbers, and allotted symbols were fitted into the voting units. Following this, a mock polling exercise (test voting) was conducted before the candidates and agents to verify operational accuracy and system functionality. 

Once the mock voting concluded, test votes were cleared from the units. All EVM and VVPAT machines were subsequently sealed with security tags in the presence of the representatives.
