Polling begins for first phase of assembly elections in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Polling has begun for the first phase of Assembly elections in Gujarat. Voting, which began at 8 this morning, will end at 5.30 in the evening.  

Polling is taking place for 89 seats spread over 19 districts of Saurashtra, Kutch, and South Gujarat regions in this phase. A total of 788 candidates are in the fray in this phase. 

Former ministers including Jitu Bhai Vaghani, Harsh Sanghavi, Kanubhai Desai, Raghav Ji Patel,



cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife Riva ba Jadeja, Senior Congress leaders Arjun Morvadhiya, Paresh Dhanani, Indranil Rajyaguru, AAP’s CM Candidate Isudan Gadhvi, and party’s state president Gopal Italia are among the prominent candidates in this phase. 

Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements to ensure peaceful polling. Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has appealed people to exercise their franchise in large numbers.
