The police averted a major IED attack by the Naxalites in Maharashtra and seized at least six pressure cookers filled with explosives, detonators and three claymore pipes filled with explosives and shrapnel. According to officials, acting on intelligence input, two teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), one unit of C-60 commando team and a Quick Action Team (QAT) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were dispatched to Gadchiroli’s Tipagad area on Sunday, from where the recoveries were made. Gadchiroli SP Neelotpal informed that when the teams reached the spot, they found six pressure cookers filled with explosives and detonators and 3 claymore pipes filled with



explosives and shrapnels were also found. The SP said that the explosives were recovered by the police. He added that the teams also sized gunpowder, which was filled in a plastic bag, medicines and blankets at the same spot.

The SP also said that in the operation, as many as nine IEDs and three claymore pipes were also destroyed on the spot by the BDDS team. He said that Maoists were planning to carry out IED blasts during the Lok Sabha elections in the state.
 
Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha constituency went to polls on April 19 and the results will be declared on June 4.
