Union Ministry of Finance has said that Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, PMJJBY has registered a cumulative enrolment of over nine crore and 27 lakh. While Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, PMSBY witnessed a cumulative enrolment of more than 17 crore 74 lakh, it added.
The data comprises the persons registered for these two schemes since 1st of April 2017 to 23rd of last month.
This was stated by Union Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha yesterday.
Giving more details, the Minister
stated that PMJJBY and PMSBY were launched on 9th May, 2015 with a view to enhance the level of insurance penetration in the country and to provide insurance cover to common people, especially poor and the under-privileged sections of the society.
He said, while PMJJBY offers life insurance cover of 2 lakh rupees, PMSBY offers accidental death or total permanent disability cover of 2 lakh rupees and permanent partial disability cover of one lakh rupees. He however said that there is no proposal to increase the amount for insurance cover under PMJJBY and PMSBY.
