Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday remained firm ahead of the 50 per cent US tariffs on Indian goods, effective August 27, saying his government will find a way out regardless of the economic pressure by Washington.

"No matter how much pressure comes, we will keep increasing our strength to withstand it. Today, the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan is getting a lot of energy from Gujarat and behind this are two decades of hard work...," PM Modi said while speaking at a public address in Ahmedabad today.

“Today we are all seeing policies based on economic selfishness in the world.” He reassured the nation that India will stand firm against such protectionist measures and will prioritise the interests of its

citizens.

Addressing small shopkeepers, farmers, cattle rearers, and small entrepreneurs, Modi declared, “From the land of Gandhi, I promise again and again: for Modi, your interests are paramount. My government will never let small entrepreneurs, cattle rearers, or farmers suffer any harm.”

Earlier, in his Independence Day speech, PM Modi had urged a shift towards 'swadeshi' (Made in India) products and voiced solidarity with farmers and fishermen, in a subtle message directed at Trump.

"Modi is standing like a wall against any harmful policy related to the farmers, fishermen and cattle-rearers of India. We will never accept any compromise regarding our farmers, their livestock rearers and fishermen," the PM said.
