PM Modi reviews Covid-19 situation with CMs of six States

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the Covid caseload in a few states and said, states that report higher cases need to take proactive measures to stop the possibility of a third wave. Prime minister noted with concern that in the last few days, around 80 percent of new cases have come from six states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Maharashtra and Kerala.

During his interaction with the Chief Ministers of these states Yesterday, Mr Modi  urged them to focus on micro containment zones. Stressing on the need to focus on test, track, treat and vaccinate approach,  the Prime Minister said, the country has fought Covid pandemic with mutual cooperation and united efforts. 

Prime minister said, in the last two weeks, cases are increasing in Europe, US, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand. Mr Modi said, it is a warning sign for the country and to remind all the citizens that Covid 19 has not left us.

The Prime Minister highlighted that funds are being made available to all the states for setting up new ICU beds and increasing testing capacity. He referred to the Central government's announcement of  more than 23 thousand crore



rupees emergency response package to combat COVID19. He said, the States must use funds from this package to strengthen health infrastructure. 

Mr Modi said that out of 332 PSA plants allocated to these states, 53 plants have been commissioned. He asked the Chief Ministers to expedite the completion of the plants. The Prime Minister made special mention of the need to protect children from being infected and make all possible arrangements in this regard.

The Prime Minister said, the increase in cases in Maharashtra and Kerala is a cause of concern. He underlined the expert’s view that if the cases keep on rising for a long time, chances of mutation of the Coronavirus will also increase and dangers of new variants will also rise. 

Terming vaccines as a strategic tool for high infection areas, the Prime Minister stressed the effective use of vaccination. The Chief Ministers talked about the steps taken to boost medical infrastructure and gave suggestions on dealing with any possible rise of cases in future. They also discussed post-Covid issues being faced by patients and steps being taken to provide assistance in such cases.
