A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking urgent directions to the Centre and the Delhi government to provide immediate medical treatment and life-saving intervention to climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, whose indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar entered its 18th day on Wednesday.
The plea comes amid growing concerns over Wangchuk's deteriorating health, with doctors and supporters warning that the activist has lost significant weight and is showing symptoms of severe
physical weakness after fasting since June 28 in support of students protesting alleged irregularities in the NEET examination
The petition, filed by advocate Rakesh Kumar Saini, is expected to be mentioned before the Delhi High Court for urgent listing.
It seeks directions to the Union government and the Delhi government to ensure immediate medical treatment for Wangchuk, initiate dialogue with him on the issues raised during the protest, and take all necessary steps to safeguard his life.
