At least fifteen people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus skidded off a hilly road and plunged into a deep gorge in the Ramnagar area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday, officials said.
While initial reports confirmed 16 injured, another account placed the number of injured at around 20, with several passengers stated to be in critical condition.
The accident occurred at around 10 am near Kagort village when the bus, travelling from a
remote village towards the garrison town of Udhampur, lost control while negotiating a blind curve on a narrow mountain road.
The vehicle reportedly rolled down a steep hillside, resulting in heavy casualties at the scene.
Soon after the incident, police personnel, rescue teams, and local residents rushed to the spot and launched a large-scale rescue operation. Injured passengers were evacuated from the gorge and shifted to nearby hospitals for immediate medical treatment.
