Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and resorted to indiscriminate and unprovoked firing on Indian forward posts and civilian areas in the border district of Poonch in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir last evening.

Defence spokesperson told that at about 8.30 p.m. Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked ceasefire by firing of small

arms and shelling with mortars along the Line of Control in Balakote sector of Mendham in Poonch district.

However, Indian troops retaliated and gave a befitting reply to Pakistani firing. The exchange of fire continued till 9.15 p.m.  No loss of life or damage was reported from the Indian side.
