Over 82% voting recorded in final phase of Assam

In Assam, 82. 28 percent of polling has been reported in the third and final phase. However, the final figure is yet to be announced. Overall Assam has recorded over 80 percent of polling. Polling was held in the state in 3 phase and last phase has covered 40 seats yesterday. A total of 337 candidates were in the fray in the third phase. We spoke to Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Khade on the third phase of polls.

In West Bengal campaigning for the fourth phase of assembly election reached its feverish pitch. The canvassing will come to an end tomorrow evening. This phase of polling will be held on 10th April in 44 assembly segments spread over five districts Hooghly, Howrah, South 24 Pargana, Coochbehar and Alipurduar districts.

Senior leaders of TMC, BJP and Sanyukta Morcha will be criss crossing in several assembly segments holding rallies and road shows. Senior BJP leader and union home minister Amit Shah will hold four road shows today in poll-bound Singur, Domjur, Howrah Madhya and Behala Purva assembly segments.

TMC Chief and CM Mamata Banerjee will also hold rallies in support of party candidates. On Tuesday senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed rallies in Coochbehar and Howrah. Mr Modi alleged in the election rally of Howrah that corruption is rampant in the regime of TMC led government. He claimed

electorates of Bengal have decided to dethrone the present government.

TMC chief Mamata Banerjee alleged that BJP is resorting violence and intimidation to come into power. Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary and CPM leader Suryakant Mishra campaigning for candidates of Sanyukt Morcha. Popular cine stars of the old era like Jaya Bhaduri and Mandakini are also holding roadshows.

77.68 percentage of polling was recorded in the third phase of the Assembly elections which was held yesterday. The polling was by and large peaceful in 31 assembly constituencies across three districts, Hooghly, Howrah and South 24 Parganas.

The third phase of assembly elections witnessed quite a few incidents throughout the day. In Uluberia Uttar constituency, a sector officer, two assistant sector officers and a sector police officer have been suspended by the ECI. Three home guards were also removed from duty. The sector officer allegedly took 3 EVMs and 4 VVPATs to a Trinamool Congress leader’s house.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made especially in South 24 Parganas. In Canning, the TMC candidate sat on dharna on the road alleging violence by the ISF supporters. Section 144 had been imposed in all 16 constituencies and no major untoward incident has been reported from the district
