Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in Kerala till Saturday. Death toll in the rain-related incidents in the State has risen to 39.

Orange alert has been issued for today in 11 districts excluding Kollam, Alappuzha and Kasargod. Orange alert has been issued for tomorrow as well, for 12 districts of the State. High alert is issued in landslide prone regions and in riverside areas. The warning comes amid incessant rainfall in Kerala over the past few days.

Meanwhile, shutters of several dams have been opened



and dam authorities are taking cognizance of the situation. 

The authorities have asked people living in the eastern parts and the Western Ghats region of Kerala to remain vigilant. People were evacuated to relief camps, particularly from river banks and areas prone to landslides as a precautionary measure.
 
The district authorities have asked people living in Koottickal, Mundakayam and Kokkayar and nearby areas where massive landslides were reported recently to remain extremely vigilant.
