Days after the collapse of a building being used as a boys’ paying guest (PG) accommodation in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area left seven people dead, police have arrested one of the operators of the facility, officials said.
The latest arrest comes as investigators continue to probe the circumstances that led to the collapse and examine allegations of unauthorised construction and structural violations at the property.
The building, located in the Satya Niketan area near Delhi
University’s South Campus, collapsed earlier this week, killing seven people and injuring several others.
The victims included students and labourers who were present inside the premises when the structure came down. Police have been questioning those responsible for running and managing the PG accommodation as part of the investigation.
Authorities are also examining whether construction or renovation work was carried out without the necessary permissions and whether safety norms were followed.
