A nurse at a health sub-centre in Chalissery here was bitten by a snake inside its compound last week, a health official said on Thursday.

The official said that the incident occurred on Sunday, August 2, and the nurse was not on duty at that time.

"The nurse hails from Thrissur and was staying in a room inside the sub-centre compound. She got bitten by the snake when she came out of the kitchen. The

ground was covered with leaves wet with rainwater and she probably did not see the snake," the official said.

The nurse was immediately taken to the hospital and given treatment, she said, adding that her health is stable now. The official said that several requests were made to the panchayat, under which the sub-centre comes, to clean up the dense foliage in and around it, but no action has been taken till now.
