Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and head of the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav said he had not received any invitation for the "Bharat Jodo Yatra" and accused the Congress of being cut out from the same cloth as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"The ideology of our party is different. The BJP and the Congress are the same," said Akhilesh Yadav while addressing reporters in Lucknow.

On being asked if he was invited to the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the Samajwadi Party chief said, "We have not received any invitation (for Bharat Jodo

Yatra). Our sentiments are with the yatra. If you have an invitation on your phone, please, send it to me."

Akhilesh Yadav's statement comes despite sources in the Congress confirming that it has invited several leaders of non-BJP parties, including Yadav, BSP supremo Mayawati and RLD's Jayant Chaudhary, to join the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The yatra is currently on a break and will resume again on January 3 by entering Uttar Pradesh, where Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party is the main opposition to Yogi Adityanath's BJP government, from Delhi.
