Nepal’s Gen-Z protest movement over banned social media platforms has intensified, with demonstrators storming restricted areas, setting fires near Parliament and clashing with security forces. The government has deployed the army, imposed curfews, and called an emergency meeting as unrest spreads across the country.
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has refused to lift the social media ban. Nepali Congress ministers,
part of the ruling coalition, opposed the ban and walked out after Oli reportedly called the protesters “Gen Z troublemakers.”
The District Administration Office in Kathmandu imposed a curfew after clashes broke out; the Nepali Army was deployed to maintain order. Protesters in the capital defied restrictions, blocking the army from advancing. A group of protestors even vandalised the Parliament gate and set it on fire.
