Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has called for transforming AP into a zero-crime-rate state by using new technology. Naidu held a review meeting with the senior officials from the Real Time Governance Society at the Secretariat on Monday. He laid emphasis on proper monitoring of law and order in the state by using high-end technology to bring down the crime rate and make AP a model state for proper maintenance of law and order.

He asked officials to keep a close vigil on crime hotspots on a continuous basis with the help of CCTV cameras to curb crime and revise regulations to allow the use of footage of even private CCTV cameras to control crime. Referring to those who commit crime in the guise of politics, he said officials must use the technology in an effective manner to detect such criminal activities. He warned those who “intend to commit crime and shift the blame on the government and then fail to cooperate with the police,” to mend their ways. The police should deal with such people in the right manner, he said.

Naidu asked the officials to invoke relevant provisions of Public Safety Act against such persons to collect data from them. He emphasized the need to identify such people involved in criminal activities. As for the Public Safety Act, the CM called for extension of its purview to collect CCTV footage from the shopping malls,

film theatres, hotels and other establishments to prevent crime. He felt the need to enhance the usage of drones and electronic surveillance in various sectors as part of the series of measures to detect and curb crime.

Naidu called for quick restoration of piezometers and sensors to monitor the current groundwater levels in reservoirs, the inflows and the quantum of discharge of water into the sea. There must be a proper recording of water data. Flood management, he said, could be improved through real-time monitoring of inflows of water into the reservoirs. Naidu said that all the reservoirs in the state were getting filled to the capacity due to the heavy inflows. He directed the officials to help fishermen and those residing in coastal areas to get proper information from the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services as regards the tidal waves and the suitable places for fishing in the sea. This would help them get a big catch.

While referring to the target of making AP free from poverty by 2029, Naidu called for synchronising the beneficiary data from every department and other information with RTGS, so that data could be updated. He wanted all the welfare schemes to be reoriented, and continuation of the P4 initiative of linking Bangaru Kutumbam with mentors without any interruption.
