In a dramatic turn of events, the prime accused in the brutal murder of a young woman at Khajipet was injured in police firing while allegedly attempting to escape from custody in the early hours of Saturday.
According to police, the accused, Venkatesh, who was arrested in connection with the sensational throat-slitting murder that sent shockwaves across the state, tried to flee while being shifted from Mydukur for
investigation.
The incident occurred near Basapuram check-post, where he reportedly attacked two constables, leaving them injured.
Despite repeated warnings, the accused did not surrender, forcing the police to open fire. Three rounds were fired, during which Venkatesh sustained bullet injuries to his knees.
He was immediately shifted to RIMS Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Police have tightened security at the hospital.
