A special court in Mumbai has allowed Enforcement Directorate (ED) to send a Letter of Request to the British government for execution of a non-bailable warrant against Lalit Modi and his transfer to India for facing probe in a money laundering case.
ED, in its application on the 8th of this month, had pleaded before the court for issuing the letter for the execution of non-bailable warrant. It had sought necessary steps to be taken by the competent authorities in UK for locating the former IPL commissioner.
The Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court yesterday allowed the prayer. Special ED



counsel Hiten Venegoankar said, the Letter of Request order will be sent to the External Affairs Ministry, which will forward it to the competent authority in England for further action.The agency is probing the case against Lalit Modi in connection with a 2008 deal between World Sports Group and Multi Screen Media for television rights worth 425 crore rupees for IPL.
BCCI had registered a case in Chennai in connection with the deal. It was followed by a case by ED.So far, three Letters of Request have been issued against Lalit Modi by the same court to authorities in Singapore, Mauritius and UAE.
