In a major decision, the Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday withdrew the two-child norm in government service rules.

Chief minister Mohan Yadav announced that draft two-child norm in proposed Madhya Pradesh Civil Service Rules has been withdrawn and ordered ‘immediate’ removal of the two-child norm from the government portal.

“The chief minister has taken the major decision in the interest of government employees and aspirants seeking government service”, a press release issued by the state government here late on Tuesday evening

said.

The chief minister has taken cognizance of the matter and directed the withdrawal of the draft provision in the proposed Madhya Pradesh Civil Service rules that prescribed a maximum limit of two children for eligibility for government employment, the official communication said.

It may be recalled that under a decision taken by the then state government in 2001, the General Administration Department (GAD) had introduced a provision disqualifying candidates with more than two living children from direct recruitment and departmental appointments in government service.
