Authorities in Srinagar on Thursday placed Kashmir?s chief Muslim cleric, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, and People?s Conference (PC) chairman and former minister Sajad Gani Lone under house detention to prevent them from attending public gatherings or visiting the graves of their fathers on their shared ?martyrdom? anniversary. 

Both leaders were scheduled to participate in Fateha Khawani?prayers for the deceased?at the Idgah Martyrs?



Graveyard here, but restrictions were imposed late Wednesday evening, including sealing access to the cemetery.

According to the Mirwaiz?s office, he was confined to his residence ahead of the planned prayer assembly at Mazar-e-Shohada, where his father, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, is buried. 

The authorities simultaneously restricted public movement toward the graveyard, effectively preventing commemorative gatherings.
