Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma has announced that his government would not allow uranium mining in the state and in this regard his government has decided to pass a resolution in the state assembly.
Mr Sangma in a virtual address to the people said, “Our stand has always been clear and unwavering.
After a meeting with
several party leaders, we have reaffirmed our commitment to stand with the people of Meghalaya. As a government, we will continue to oppose uranium mining and will bring forward a resolution to formally ban uranium mining in the state.”
He was responding to recent and ongoing speculation and media reports on alleged moves towards uranium mining in Meghalaya.
