Imphal: In Manipur, the security force has initiated a mass combing operation to retrieve the arms and ammunition looted from police stations and arrest those involved in violent incidents.
 
The combined security forces consisting of BSF, Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and Assam Rifles under the supervision of a DIG-ranked team conducted combing operations in Thingkangphai villages under Churachandpur district of Manipur. During the search operation, the security forces recovered a large number of locally made arms and ammunition. The team also destroyed bunkers used by Kuki militants.
 
Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary of Manipur has announced that an Executive Magistrate is required during the combing operation conducted in those areas from where the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 has already been



lifted.
 
Clarifying the rumour that the combing operation will be conducted in valley districts only, the press release issued by Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi said that the Army can conduct the combing operation without an Executive Magistrate in those areas where the Armed Forces Special Powers' Act, 1958 is still in force. It may be mentioned that most of the act is still in force in most of the hill districts of Manipur.
 
On the other hand, the Manipur Police recovered 57 arms and 318 live ammunition from different districts during the search operation conducted today. The police have recovered a total of 868 weapons along with around eleven thousand five hundred live ammunition till now. These weapons and ammunition were looted from different police stations by the protestors during the present crisis in the State.
