A dispute over the felling of a family-owned babul tree turned fatal in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district after a man allegedly assaulted his younger brother, who later died during treatment, police said on Monday.
The incident took place in Bhelkha village under the Manjhanpur police station limits.
According to police, Babbu Lal (50), who worked at a brick kiln in Bihar, returned to his village on Sunday after learning that his elder brother, Raja, had
cut down a babul tree belonging to the family a day earlier.
An argument broke out between the two brothers and later escalated into a physical altercation, police said.
Raja allegedly thrashed Babbu Lal and pushed him, causing him to fall headfirst onto the leg of a nearby cot, resulting in serious injuries, they said. Babbu Lal was taken to a private hospital at the district headquarters, where he succumbed to his injuries late on Sunday night, police added.
