Call it passion, pride or sheer stubbornness. A man in Haryana bid a whopping sum of Rs 1.17 crore for a fancy number for his vehicle and made it to headlines. 

But as the last date arrived to pay the bid amount, the highest bidder was nowhere to be found leaving the transport department officials scratching their heads.

But the Haryana Transport minister Anil Vij was not amused at the development. He ordered officials to check the man’s income and paying capacity.

The auction took place



last week in which the man hailing from Hisar bid the highest amount of Rs 1.17 crore for the registration number HR-88-B-8888, a report from media said. 

The deadline for the payment was Monday. The bidder had earlier paid Rs 1,000 as the participation fee and Rs 10,000 as the security deposit to take part in the online bidding process.

However, by Wednesday the bid amount was not paid. “I have issued strict instructions to Transport Department officials to check the bidder’s actual income and property.
