The Maharashtra government has announced insurance coverage for 1.5 lakh Govindas participating in the upcoming Dahi Handi festival during Gokulashtami. To ensure their safety, the government will bear the insurance cost through The Oriental Insurance Company at a rate of 75 rupees per participant.
The policy aims to support Govindas
who often suffer injuries while forming human pyramids. An amount of 1.12 crore rupees will be allocated from the Sports Development Fund for this purpose. The scheme will be implemented in coordination with the Maharashtra State Dahi Handi Govinda Association and the Sports and Youth Services Department.
