The election process of Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti in Maharashtra was suspended by the State Election Commission yesterday, in the backdrop of the amendment made by the state government in the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961. The Ordinance regarding the amendment made by the State Government in the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961 has been published on 4th August 2022.

Accordingly, there has been a change in the number of Zilla Parishad member posts, the current composition of electoral divisions and electorates. The reservation process also has been suspended. Therefore, the ongoing election process with the State Election Commission was suspended. 

The final notification of reservation of 25 Zilla Parishads and 284 Panchayat Committees under them was to be published yesterday. Similarly, the center wise voter list of 13 Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Committees under them was to be published on 8th August 2022 and the draft voter list of 12 Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Committees under them was to be published on 10th August,



2022.

Now all this process has been suspended at the existing stage and further orders will be issued as soon as possible. Similarly, in the wake of the state government's amendment of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act and the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, the reservation draw for the general elections of nine municipal corporations to be held on August 5 was postponed. At the same time, the State Election Commission has also directed to postpone the notification of final reservation to be published for the general elections of other 14 Municipal Corporations.

Draws of Reservations were to be announced on August 5 for the elections of 9 municipal corporations namely Aurangabad, Nanded-Waghala, Latur, Parbhani, Chandrapur, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Malegaon, Panvel and Mira-Bhainder but it remains  cancelled now. 

The final notification of reservation of 14 Municipal Corporations namely Brihanmumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Vasai-Virar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Kolhapur, Nashik, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur will not be published.
