Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde yesterday assured the Dhangar community that the government is making all necessary efforts to ensure reservation for them. He was speaking to reporters after meeting a delegation of Dhangar community members in Mumbai. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar along with other senior Ministers.
Stating that the government wants to ensure reservations that can stand judicial scrutiny, Mr. Shinde said similar decisions taken by the State governments of Telangana,
Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar are being studied thoroughly. He added that a committee of government officials and members of the Dhangar community will be formed to take all requisite measures in this regard.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, the government is trying to fulfill the constitutional requirements to ensure reservation and in the meantime has made adequate arrangements to ensure that the Dhangar community receives various benefits that are currently being given to STs.
