The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved a financial provision of Rs 6,477.88 crore for Phase-II of the Jayakwadi project, paving the way for faster implementation of the Majalgaon Dam project on the Sindphana River in the Godavari basin.
The project is expected to provide irrigation to around 1.31 lakh hectares across Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahilyanagar, Beed, Parbhani
and Nanded districts. It is also expected to support industrial water supply, fisheries and power generation.
Meanwhile, as contractors across the state continue to protest over pending bills, the Cabinet approved the use of a new system to ensure timely payment of contractors' dues. The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Mantralaya.
