The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved the creation of a new Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence department, a major restructuring of state power utility Mahavitaran, and a World Bank-supported programme aimed at strengthening disaster-response mechanisms.
The Maharashtra Resilient Development Programme (MRDP), designed to enhance the state’s disaster management system, will receive Rs 165 crore in external assistance from the World
Bank.
The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House.
As part of the administrative overhaul, the government cleared the formation of a separate Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Department to accelerate its ‘Viksit Maharashtra’ vision.
The existing IT functions under the General Administration Department will now be carved out to form the new unit.
