New Delhi: With the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic slowly declining, German airline Lufthansa resumed non-stop international flight operations from Germany to India from Wednesday. Lufthansa will operate 10 weekly flights throughout June, the airline said. After the Netherlands, Germany is the second country to lift the ban on international passenger flights from India amid the ongoing pandemic.

According to the airline, there will be no second crew change stopover on the Gulf as was being done for nearly a month, thereby cutting the travel time up to three hours. This will help hundreds of students to return back to Germany as they were stranded in India due to the ban on flights from India.

“We’ll have normal operations from Germany with no second crew, all crew layover in India (Delhi, Mumbai & Bangalore) effective from Wednesday. We’ll resume nonstop flights from Germany to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore

and will continue to operate 10 weekly flights throughout June,” a Lufthansa Spokesperson said on Wednesday. Lufthansa’ has 10 weekly flights between Frankfurt which includes four from New Delhi and three Mumbai and three from Bengaluru under the air bubble between India and Germany.

The airlines had early last month added a stop in Dubai for its India flights to ensure its pilots and cabin crew do not require a layover in the country as it dealt with a ravaging second wave. However, the stop was later changed to Bahrain due to recent restrictions imposed by the UAE government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Netherlands had also lifted the ban on passenger flight from India. As per the Dutch Government, ban on passenger flights from India that had come into force on 20 April, 2021 has been lifted with effect from 01 June, 2021, the Embassy of India in Amsterdam stated.
