Leh: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the Parliamentary Outreach programme for empowerment of Panchayati Raj institutions at Leh in the Union Territory of Ladakh today. The programme is a unique initiative to strengthen the institutions of governance and planning at the grassroot level.

The third such programme in the series, Lok Sabha speaker Mr. Om Birla will inaugurate the Outreach & Familiarisation Programme for the Panchayati Raj Institutions in Leh, today. Parliamentary Research & Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) of Lok Sabha Secretariat is organizing the outreach programme with a focus on enhancing participatory democracy through a greater awareness of the procedures and processes followed by democratic institutions functioning right from the grassroots to the apex



level. 

First two outreach programmes were organized in Uttarakhand and Manipur. The third programme will be on ‘Panchayati Raj System/Autonomous District Councils: Strengthening the Decentralised Democracy’.Creating procedural awareness, participation, awareness about the various schemes and the doorstep delivery – opportunities for development work and pushing the aspirations of the ground level leadership are among the aims and objectives of the programme. Union Ministers Mahendranath Pandey, Bhagwant Khube, Nityanand Roy and Ladakh LG RK Mathur will participate in various panel discussions in the day long outreach and familiarisation program.

Representatives of 31 blocks and 193 Panchayats of UT Ladakh will be participating in the outreach programme at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra in Leh.
