Ahead of the Dasara celebrations, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has increased bus fares on the Bengaluru-Mysuru route.

The hike ranges from Rs 20 to Rs 30 depending on the service and is effective from today until October 8, the end of the festival.

For Karnataka Sarige Vaibhav services, fares have increased from Rs 170 to Rs 190, Non-stop services from Rs 210 to Rs 240, Rajahamsa from Rs 270 to Rs 290, Airavata from Rs 430 to Rs 450, and Airavata Club Class from Rs 440 to Rs 460.

The corporation emphasised that this increase is limited to the Bengaluru-Mysuru route only and does not affect fares on any other routes.

The transport department clarified that this special fare collection has been in practice for the last 20 years during Dasara and other specific

holidays.

According to the department, the fare hike is justified because special services operate on one-way traffic, often returning with empty or near-empty buses, while operating costs remain high due to vehicles being deployed from other divisions. This arrangement helps cover the additional operational costs and ensures smooth management of festival traffic.

Officials noted that the increase has been implemented in line with government notifications allowing KSRTC to charge higher fares on special days, fairs, and holidays. During Dasara, the temporary fare hike applies to express, non-stop, and premier services on the Bengaluru-Mysuru route, ensuring passengers are aware of the cost before travelling.

The revised rates will remain in force throughout the celebrations, from September 26 to October 8.
