Kolkata doctor rape-murder, Wikipedia ordered to remove name, photo of victim

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed free online encyclopedia Wikipedia to remove the photograph and name of the resident doctor who was raped and murdered at R G Kar government hospital in Kolkata.

A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud took note of



the submission by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who said Wikipedia was still carrying the name and the photograph of the victim.

The top court said provisions of the law are very clear that the identity of the victim in rape and murder cases cannot be revealed.
