Kerala's annual trawling ban will come into force from Tuesday midnight and remain in effect until midnight on July 31 as part of measures aimed at protecting marine resources during the fish breeding season.
Ahead of the restrictions, the Fisheries Department has issued detailed guidelines for fishermen and boat operators. Officials said that, during the ban period, only traditional fishing craft will be allowed to carry out fishing activities.
"Trawling and double-net
fishing have been completely prohibited. Authorities have directed boats from other states to leave Kerala waters immediately, while other vessels must remain anchored at their respective base-of-operation centres," an official release said.
The department said only one carrier boat will be permitted alongside each inboard fishing vessel. Fishermen going to sea have been instructed to carry life-saving equipment and keep registration documents, fishing licences and Aadhaar cards with them at all times.
