Kerala Assembly will be convened today to elect a new Speaker. AN Shamseer of the ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front and Anwar Sadath of the Congress-led Opposition United Democratic Front are in the fray.

The



election of a new Speaker was necessitated following the induction of former incumbent  MB Rajesh into the State Cabinet to fill the vacancy of MB Govindan who was made the State Secretary of the CPM.
