The Hindu festival of Karwa Chauth is known to strengthen the bond between a couple. However, it became a cause of marital discord between a husband and wife in a Madhya Pradesh village, pushing them to the verge of separation.
Bare Lal Adivasi, a resident of Vijrawan village under Badarwas police station in Shivpuri district, lodged a complaint with the local police station alleging that he feared a threat to
his life from his wife, Mithilesh, as she had shunned the Karwa Chauth festival, which is observed for the long life of one's husband.
She neither observes a fast nor follows the ritual of worshipping the moon on the occasion, praying for his long life.
Hence, he feared a threat to his life from her, the complaint said. He wanted to divorce his wife on these grounds, police said.
