The Karnataka government is exploring the possibility of adopting new models, including renting or leasing vehicles, to modernise the state police department, improve operational facilities for personnel and ensure faster and more efficient public services, state Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Thursday.

He said the government was looking at alternatives to the conventional practice of directly purchasing

vehicles for the police department, with a focus on efficient utilisation of public funds.

The minister held a meeting with officials from the Karnataka Police's communications, logistics and modernisation wing as well as representatives of more than 20 automobile and two-wheeler manufacturers-including companies producing electric and conventional vehicles-to discuss the feasibility of a rental or leasing model.
