In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Jammu Police yesterday busted a nexus backed by Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) which was engaged in collecting funds and luring students to study MBBS and BDS in Pakistan. 

Police also detected a newly floated outfit Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement. The nexus surfaced during day-long raids by Police at three locations of Jamaat-e-Islami activists in the city and outskirts in which one person was arrested while search for his accomplice in going on.

The raids were conducted at the house of Sharif Sartaj in Sunjuwan and his office at Talab Khatikan along with the residence of Rayees Ahmed Malik at Dalpatian Mohalla in Jammu city.

Sartaj has been arrested by Police. However, the searches led to recovery of large number of admission forms for MBBS and BDS studies in Pakistan. Besides, a register was seized with several mobile and landline telephone numbers of several Pakistanis



including those who were instrumental in the admission of students in MBBS colleges.

Jamaat activists had been selling MBBS seats in Pakistan, a modus operandi used by Hurriyat Conference leaders in Kashmir also in which a case has already been registered by the State Investigation Agency (SIA).

Another significant disclosure which came to the fore was that links of Jamaat activists have also been traced to former Minister Babu Singh as Sartaj was closely linked to him. Singh was arrested by Police last month after recovery of cash worth six lakh rupees hawala amount in Jammu and he is presently lodged in jail.

The Police have already stated that Babu Singh had number of contacts in Pakistan. The Police have registered a fresh case under different sections of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act due to recovery of incriminating material of banned organizations from the houses.
