Emphasising the critical importance of reliable data for accurate water conservation planning in the era of climate change, Secretary of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, V. L. Kanta Rao, said that the use of modern sensors to obtain precise information has become the need of the hour.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the national workshop “PreciSense 2026” at the Central Water and Power Research Station in Pune today.
The main theme of the
workshop is the accuracy, testing and calibration of hydrometric and meteorological instruments.
Mr. Rao noted that climate change has altered rainfall patterns, making it essential to install accurate instruments that can provide real-time data for flood control and water resource planning.
He called for self-reliance in the manufacturing of instruments used in the water sector and stressed the need to test indigenously developed equipment in line with global standards.
