Jagdish Vishwakarma is set to become the next president of the Gujarat BJP after filing his nomination on Friday during an auspicious time for victory. With no other candidate in the fray, he is certain to be elected unopposed. The official announcement will be made tomorrow in the presence of National Election Officer K Laxman and Gujarat BJP in-charge Bhupendra Yadav.
Vishwakarma has been closely associated with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Currently serving as Gujarat’s Minister of Cooperation since September 2021, he has also held the post of Ahmedabad
city BJP president in the past. His elevation is being seen as recognition of his long-standing organisational and political experience.
BJP MLA Alpesh Thakor welcomed the development, saying, “The party has chosen a worker with experience in both organisational and governmental aspects. The party has millions of workers, whose strength will be leveraged and will lead to success in the future. The BJP is a party that is always in election mode and is dominated by leaders, and there are no workers, so the new president will face no challenge.”
