Intermittent heavy rains continue to pound many parts of Kerala, especially in the northern and the central parts of the state.

In Kozhikode,  damages to crops and property were reported in 16 villages in the district. 20 houses were partially damaged. An orange alert has been issued in the Kakkayam reservoir, as the water level there rose to 756.5 meters.

In Kasargod, the Thejaswini and Karyamkode rivers are in spate. The Madhur temple was fully submerged. In the Mosangadi area, 50 persons belonging to seven families were shifted to safety as their houses were submerged.

In Kannur, the district administration has declared a holiday today for all educational institutions



except colleges.

The district administration in Idukki has banned night travel in the hilly areas of the district from today. Road traffic on the Old Munnar-Devikulam road has been restricted in view of the possibility of landslides. A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions including colleges.

Meanwhile, the Met Department has issued a yellow alert in all districts in the state today, except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta. It said strong wind with speed reaching 45-55 Kmph and gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Kerala coast and Lakshadweep. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
