A Chennai-bound IndiGo flight from Kolkata, carrying 229 people, 222 of them passengers, made an emergency landing at Chennai airport late Tuesday night after developing an engine malfunction and oil leakage while approaching the airport.
The incident occurred around 11.30 pm when the aircraft was preparing to land at Chennai’s domestic airport. The left-side engine reportedly developed a technical snag accompanied by an oil leak, prompting the pilot to alert the Chennai Air Traffic Control (ATC) before attempting to
land.
Following the pilot’s emergency communication, an emergency was declared on the runway. As a precautionary measure, fire tenders, medical teams and other emergency and security personnel were deployed at the airport and placed on standby.
The aircraft reportedly remained airborne and circled the airport while the emergency arrangements were put in place. After the necessary safety measures were completed, the aircraft was cleared to land and touched down safely at Chennai airport at around 11.37 pm.
