India has welcomed the recent positive developments toward resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. It emphasised the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict while voicing concern over the war’s collateral consequences, including the price of fuel, saying countries of the Global South have been left to fend for themselves. India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, P Harish, was speaking in the UN General Assembly during a debate on the Ukraine conflict.

While expressing support for efforts to end the war in Ukraine, Mr Harish appreciated the progress made on the

matter during the summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 15th of last month. Mr Harish reiterated India’s offer of peace diplomacy, saying India stands ready to support diplomatic efforts for an early end to the conflict.

He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent engagements with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian President Putin, and European leaders promote the chances of peace. Mr Harish highlighted that the wholehearted participation and commitment of all stakeholders are critical for lasting peace.
