India to have 220 more airports, heliports, and water aerodromes over next 5 years

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that in the next five years, India will have 200 to 220 more airports, heliports and water aerodromes.

Addressing media in New Delhi on the nine years of Government's Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan focusing on Aviation sector, the Minister said, the number of airports, heliports and water aerodromes which was  only 74 till 2013-2014 in 68 years after the independence, the number in the last nine years has reached 148 registering 100 percent rise.

Speaking about the growth of domestic air traffic,



Mr Scindia informed that the number of domestic passengers which was only 6 crore in 2013-24, has now increased to 14.50 crore registering a growth of 130 percent in the last nine years.

He said, the number international air traffic also increased by 50 per cent to 7 crore passengers.

Mr Scindia said that the Indian Civil Aviation is the third largest aviation market  in the world. The Civil Minister added that in the last nine years, the number of greenfield airports has also increased from 3 to 14.
