Indefinite Railway strike from July 11

Tue 28 Jun 2016, 12:39:18
Railway unions are busy gathering support and conducting meetings across all divisions leading up to the call for an indefinite strike from July 11.
Union government employees were demanding the inclusion of their suggestions in Seventh Pay Commission recommendations. The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NIFR) sought the Prime Minister’s intervention to abolish the National Pension System (NPS) in Railways.

General Secretary of NIFR M Raghavaiah presented a request on Monday to exempt railway employees from the purview of NPS and restore the old liberalised pension scheme.
Rail workers demanded a minimum wage of Rs 26,000 a month instead of the proposed Rs 17,000. About 13 lakh railway employees would launch a strike on July 11 starting at 6 am under National Joint Council of Action.
