In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Centre has predicted heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, and a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for the state until July 16.
The southwest monsoon arrived in Himachal Pradesh on June 20 this year and covered the entire state by June 22. During this period, heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and flash floods severely affected normal life. According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, the state has received 23 percent more rainfall than normal so far in July. Intermittent moderate to heavy rainfall continues in most parts of the state today, including the capital Shimla.
Due to the
unusual rainfall during this monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh, 22 incidents of cloudbursts, 31 flash floods, and 17 landslides have been reported so far. As per the latest report from the State Emergency Operations Centre, 91 people have lost their lives, 131 have been injured, and 34 people are still missing due to rain-related incidents during the monsoon season. One national highway and 207 other roads are currently closed in the state. Additionally, 132 electricity transformers and 812 drinking water schemes have also been affected. A total of 432 houses have been completely destroyed, while 928 houses have suffered partial damage in this disaster.
