The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra today.
Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Gangetic West Bengal, Mahe, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andaman and Nicobar Island, Odisha, and northeastern states are also expected to experience heavy rainfall during the next 2-3 days.
IMD issued a red alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in 9 districts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Ahmednagar, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. The state government has appealed to citizens to adhere to weather advisories and avoid venturing out unless necessary.
The weather department further predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana,
Chandigarh, Odisha, and West Bengal during the coming 2-3 days.
IMD added that Himachal Pradesh is expected to witness a hailstorm today. Places in western Rajasthan can experience heat waves and dust storms during the day.
The Southwest Monsoon entered Telangana yesterday, almost two weeks ahead of its usual schedule. Making the announcement, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, the monsoon has touched parts of seven districts, including Mahbubnagar, and is likely to spread across the entire state within a day or two if current weather conditions persist.
Every year, usually, the Southwest Monsoons arrive in Telangana around 10th of June. The IMD said, this year’s early onset is attributed to favourable meteorological factors, including rainfall trends, wind patterns, solar radiation, and moisture transport from nearby regions.
