IMD issues orange Alerts for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, Kerala, Goa

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Konkan and Goa till tomorrow. The Met Department also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal and Gujarat over the next two to three days. Similar conditions are expected over Jharkhand, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Marathwada and Uttarakhand.

The IMD predicted thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds and lightning over Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad. Various parts of Northeast India including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning. Meanwhile, heatwave is likely to prevail over West Rajasthan over the next two-three days, the IMD also predicted dust storms over the region.

accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 50 to 60 kilometres per hour. IMD has also issued an orange alert for Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg, as well as ghats of Pune and Satara during for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Maharashtra has been experiencing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds since last week. Due to this unseasonal rain, incidents of trees falling, deaths due to lightning in other places in Maharashtra, and immense damage to agricultural produce were registered.

In Kerala, IMD has issued an Orange alert in three districts today. 

The Department said isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Ernakulam districts. The yellow alert is in place in seven other districts. It said squally weather with windspeed up to 45 kmph and gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Kerala and Lakshadweep. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
