IIT-Madras Opens Rs 3.3 Cr Robotics Lab for Construction Sector

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) on Tuesday inaugurated a Rs.3.30-crore robotics laboratory aimed at developing and testing automation technologies for the construction and infrastructure sectors. 

The state-of-the-art facility has been established with CSR support from Bechtel India Pvt Ltd, a global engineering, construction and project management company. The initiative is intended to bridge academic research and industry requirements by developing robotics solutions for real-world construction



applications.

The lab will be led by IIT-M faculty members Prof. T. Asokan and Prof. Koshy Varghese. The collaboration also involves Bechtel India engineers and is expected to provide students and researchers with opportunities to work on industry-specific challenges. 

Prof. Ashwin Mahalingam, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations), IIT-M, said the partnership would help address industry-relevant challenges in construction robotics and automation and enable promising technologies to be tested and taken closer to deployment.
