IIT Bombay to Replace Ceiling Fans With Wall-Mounted Units After Student's Death

The whereabouts of Sahil Ravindra Wakode’s parents have emerged as a fresh concern following the IIT-Bombay student’s death, with a student-run Instagram page posting “Sahil’s Parents Are Missing” and claiming that the family has been uncontactable since Monday evening. 

The Justice for Sahil page said Sahil’s mother had informed students around 11 am on September 21 that she and other family members were travelling from Yavatmal to IIT-Bombay to meet the administration and were expected to reach the campus around 7 pm. 

The page claimed that there had been no contact with Sahil’s parents after that. The claim



could not be independently verified by media till the time of filing.

The post has added another layer of uncertainty to the student protest, which began after the death of the second-year BTech student and intensified over demands for accountability and institutional reforms. 

The protest had also led to action against Professor Suryanarayana Doolla, who was temporarily relieved of his duties as dean of administrative affairs while continuing as a faculty member. Student representatives, however, told media that they had not presumed Doolla guilty and wanted any allegations against him to be investigated “fairly and impartially”.
